A Prosperous New Year To You

Early this morning, we went to the emergency vet with one of our cats who had a urinary tract blockage. Fortunately, he has had a procedure to unclog the crystals and sediment and he is recovering in the hospital. However, it made me feel less than abundance conscious paying a large vet bill on New Year’s Eve, even as I felt grateful that he is expected to recover fully.

So I asked the angels for a New Year’s message about abundance and the economy to make me, and hopefully, you, feel uplifted:

You will get through this. You may take some time to pay off your VISA card for this. But you will get through this. You have food on your shelves and food in the refrigerator. You have cats at home that love you. You have a home, and a mate, and you at least had credit that could be used on an unexpected expense.

There are always people out there who seem to have things better than you do and people who don’t. There are people who are grieving the loss of loved ones at the holidays. There are people without jobs and without homes.

You will get through this. And for those reading this on the internet, you will get through whatever it is that you are going through. Are you going to win the lottery tomorrow? Probably not. Are you going to be debt free tomorrow? Probably not. But that doesn’t mean the world isn’t abundant and that doesn’t mean that you need to suffer mentally.

Think about what you have and not about what you don’t have. Yes, probably every self help book says that but we see from an angelic perspective that which you have. Why don’t we see that which you lack? If you “lack”, it’s not there, is it? So we see what you have. We don’t compare you with your neighbor, we see what you have. You have much more than you realize.

Retrain your mind, is our message for the new year. Retrain your mind so you focus on now. Right this moment, you have a roof over your head. Right this moment, you have a cat that’s healing. If you want to imagine what if’s, how about imagining how things could have been WORSE than they are now, rather than imagining how bad they could be? Yet this isn’t human nature—so we suggest that you observe what you have now.

You will realize that you don’t have the absence of anything. Debt is an idea. Now, we do not advocate irresponsibility in any way. But we do want you to focus on now. Today, I choose to exercise restraint in my purchases (not “I can’t afford x”. Today, I choose to purchase a pound of coffee and brew it at home rather than buying coffee to go daily which costs more money (rather than “I can’t afford to keep buying daily Starbucks” and we encourage avoiding regularly adding paper cups to landfills, too….) Today, I can afford to pay $100 of my credit card bill (rather than “I’ll never be able to pay this off).

Thinking about positive choices and what you CAN do in the moment, rather than what you can’t, is empowering. Please make this your new year’s resolution if you make resolutions. We bless you and convey our love for you now—and through the coming year.

Inspired by the Boss

I love the Boss. I was first introduced to the music of Bruce Springsteen in high school. Recently, with the merger of Sirius and XM radio, there has been a new radio station available on XM—E Street Radio. It has been thrilling to drive around listening to the Boss!

Through listening extensively, I’ve been able to identify just why he is such a captivating performer, particularly live. He has a sense of story in his songs, in what he says between songs in concert. I particularly enjoyed listening to “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” right before Christmas, live, and his story about being down and out before the song was every bit as much of the fun as the song itself. He is a master at engaging his audience and drawing us into emotional engagement in the story. Then after some poignancy, it’s time to bounce back energetically with some danceable Rock ‘n Roll.

In 1985, a friend and I walked to the Coliseum to see Bruce live on the Born in the USA tour (we were in our first year of law school at USC). The total unification of the energy of such a large crowd was amazing. I am looking forward to the Super Bowl…. and I’m not normally a professional football fan.

I asked the angels what they had to say about Bruce Springsteen since I wanted to write about him and they were obliging:

The reason you love Bruce Springsteen’s music so much, and the reason for his longevity as a performer, is that he is utterly passionate about his work. He is truly inspired when he steps onstage and when he writes each song. He follows his guidance when he switches from electric to acoustic, from “E Street” style to the recent Seeger Sessions… He follows his heart.

The term “channeled” has become in vogue in the New Age community. However, from the days of people talented at falling into trance states allowing beings to use their bodies to give voice to spiritual messages, a democratization of “channeling” has occurred. Before, people who could go into trance were “special”—and you can impute ego to the word “special”—so some of the information was interesting and valid, and some of the information was ludicrous at best, fearmongering and harmful at worst. The unfortunate byproduct of vacating one’s body with one’s own consciousness is a lack of discernment when it comes to messages one brings through—and often a lack of judgment on the part of those who follow the trance channeler. Just because a being is nonphysical does not make it wise.

Fortunately, the tendency nowadays is to stay present and allow inspiration to flow. This is why you can stop “channeling” our messages and take a bathroom break or a phone call, and come back to an angelic message. There is more groundedness and pragmatism nowadays in inspired messages nowadays while the person writing or speaking is awake and aware. Yes, Edgar Cayce brought much healing wisdom to those for whom he went into trance. But nowadays, anyone can seek guidance from his or her own angels or walk into any bookstore and find channeled works that are pragmatic rather than esoteric.

Various people find inspiration in works such as A Course in Miracles or the Abraham materials of Esther Hicks—conscious collaborations between a human consciousness and nonphysical beings. The newer works bear the stamp of the humans who filter the messages through their own understanding.

The disadvantage is that biases exist. The tremendous advantage is that we can use your minds to bring relevant information to you. A Course in Miracles was written by a psychologist in response to an inner dictation by Jesus. It is a system of spiritual psychological transformation. Perhaps Jesus would have given a slightly different “spin” on things for someone who was not so focused on psychology.

What does this have to do with Bruce Springsteen? Everything—and to do with everyone. When one finds one’s passion, EVERYONE is a channel, for the divine works through everyone during times of inspiration. YOU, THE READER, are a channel. Not everyone will channel angels in language. Not everyone will stand in front of a room and answer questions like Esther Hicks does in collaboration with Abraham.

Nonetheless, you are a channel. As the famous prayer of St. Francis says, “Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.” We are all instruments of God—angels, humans, animals—all of creation. When you feel like calling a friend and find that she is feeling sad, and you have a comforting conversation, you are channeling healing. When you feel inspired to write to your Senator about some environmental cause you feel strongly about, you are a channel for the spirit of guardianship for the earth and the environment. Bruce Springsteen channels music in the public eye, but he channels healing and emotional support and wisdom as a husband and a father. He channels hope and inspiration for those who want a music career.

So are you a channel on many levels. You will likely find a couple of areas that are particular passions in term of causes or career. But you will also find yourself a channel for healing, wisdom and perspective for those who you are close to. Pay attention to when you feel inspired. You ARE a channel. You are special—and not in an ego sense—you are special for ALL are special. Know that your role on this earth is unique and special, and that your inspired actions are important.

Blessings to You this Holiday Season

The word "holiday" comes from "holy day". This is the season of light. On the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year shifts from lengthening nights to lengthening days. The Jewish festival of Hanukkah commemorates a miracle, where one night's worth of lamp oil lasted for eight instead. The Christmas holiday commemorates the birth of Jesus, who became the Christ, whose birth was heralded by an unusual star and who later said he was the Light of the World.

Whether you celebrate Solstice, Hanukkah, Christmas or some combination thereof, I wish you many blessings. I have asked the angels for a seasonal message for all of you:

Beloveds of God,

We have been in service to God through being of service to His creation for millennia. We are in service to you. Yes, we are in service to you. You are also fellow servants of the Creator, and your service is in being the best you that you can be. You came to earth with unique and special gifts. Do not protest that you are not Jesus, or Michelangelo, or Frank Sinatra.... Think of the things that bring you joy and bring others joy. Are you a good cook, a good listener? Do you teach yoga or dance, or write poetry? You have a combination of things within you to express that make this world a richer place for your presence in it. This is your uniqueness, and this is your service to the world and to your God.

We are in service to your service. We facilitate your releasing what gets in the way of expressing your uniqueness, and bringing your talents to others. You can call upon us for more creativity, or more compassion. You can call upon us to connect with other people who can facilitate your bringing your gifts to the world, whether they be a spiritual teacher, or a caterer for your recipes, or a publisher for your book. We are your partners in living a larger life for God. God wants you to live a joyous, fulfilled life and thereby expand joy in this world.

Robin Williams is in divine service by bringing laughter to millions. Mother Theresa was in divine service serving the impoverished in India. Julia Child brought French cooking to the masses through her television shows. The men who change the light fixtures and unclog the sinks at your workplace bring not only mechanical relief but an easygoing nature that brings joy to others. None of these is more, or less, spiritual. Mothers care for their children. They are all spiritual and all in divine service.

Love and compassion, joy and kindness--these are the fruits of divine service.

We wish you to know that you are blessed, that you are doing God's work, that you are part of God's team here on earth, and that you are infinitely loved by the most Infinite Lover of all, God. We honor you on the eve of the day honoring the birth of Jesus. The Christ, the inner light of service, is within each of you as you surrender to divine service. May you find more and more joy.

ASPCA on Pet Poisons

In the ASPCA's e-newsletter, they cautioned about mistletoe during the holidays and said that pointsettia's toxicity is somewhat exaggerated.

I quote:

Mistletoe

Did You Know… Mistletoe, a popular yuletide decorative plant, can be potentially toxic to pets if eaten?

American mistletoe (Phoradendron serotinum) is the most common species of mistletoe recognized as a symbol of the holiday season. It is actually a parasitic plant which lives off of a variety of different tree species, and can be found throughout the United States.

If ingested in large enough quantities, mistletoe has the potential to produce gastrointestinal irritation, excessive thirst and urination, incoordination, a drop in blood pressure and heart rate, and in severe cases, difficulty breathing, seizures, coma and even death. According to ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center data, however, most animal ingestions involve small quantities—not more than the amount found in a sprig or two—and typically result in mild stomach upset that resolves with little to no treatment.

Poinsettias

Did you know that Poinsettias are not the deadly flowers that popular legend has made them out to be?

Poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) are part of a family of plants known as spurges. During the 1820s Joel Robert Poinsett, the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico at the time, first brought poinsettias to the U.S. from a Mexican city he had visited. It was during the early part of the 20th century that the myth of the plant's toxicity began when the two-year-old child of a U.S. Army officer was alleged to have become ill and died from consuming a poinsettia leaf.

As a result of this rumor, the toxic potential of poinsettia has become highly exaggerated. In reality, poinsettia ingestions typically produce only mild to moderate gastrointestinal tract irritation, which may include drooling, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Therefore, while keeping this plant out of the reach of your pet to avoid stomach upset is still a good idea, pet owners need not fear the poinsettia and banish it from their homes for fear of a fatal exposure.

Sharing versus Proselytizing

Sorry I have been away from the blog for a while--I have had the usual busy-ness with the holidays coming--then caught a major cold.

We learn soul lessons at our own pace, and this one was especially hard for him. [him: author's client] I had compassion but knew that there was nothing more I could do. We can share the knowledge we've gained with another, talk about our successes, offer encouragement, and cheer each other on, but we have to master these lessons through our own initiative.

-Sonia Choquette

We can't make people learn lessons that seem obvious to us. Everyone learns at his own pace, including spiritual lessons. We are not better than people who don't share our interests in spiritual topics, or superior to people who are experiencing lessons we learned 10 years ago. We are where we are and they are where they are.

As much as I love the angels and as much as I love this side of my life, there are people in my life who are not "into" angels, or the same belief system that I have. There are people who find the idea of a personal relationship with angels frightening. There are people who even think it's "evil." And they are all entitled to their beliefs, just as I don't particularly care to hear conversion speeches from people who are evangelical anything.

So the quote above spoke to me when I thought about all the friends I have who are into angels and the same type of spirituality I am, whose husbands are just not interested. Of course, I'm in the opposite situation--when I met Rick, he was the one with all of the spiritual books and I thought "why on earth would anyone want to read that stuff?" He had the last laugh, but it took me until 1999 to get interested in angels and spirituality. He had a long wait. But I truly think I was more open when I became interested because he never tried to "convert" me to his beliefs.

I decided to ask the angels about this topic and they had this to say:

We are at work in the lives of every single person, whether they conceive of themselves as atheists, Buddhists, Muslims, Christians or Jews. We do require permission and free will to fully participate in your lives, but permission can be granted in many ways. Some people ask God for guidance and for assistance, and we are God's servants and provide. Other people seek guidance from the "subconscious"--and we can communicate with and through their subconscious. We can suggest to other open people that they talk about a certain subject to someone that brings them comfort. We can influence a person to tune the radio to a particular frequency that answers the question in his or her heart. The main thing is that people ask. They need not think of it as "God" or "angels" or anything particular for prayers for guidance and assistance to be answered.

Many of you think of yourselves as "spiritual." While you may be focused on the spiritual, it is really not only you that is spiritual. All beings are spiritual. Even Charles Manson is a spiritual being--one who has forgotten his nature, and one who has made unfortunate choices for himself and for others and created much pain--but a spiritual being nonetheless.

So don't worry about your friends or husbands being "non-spiritual." They can't be. Would you like to be bombarded with enthusiastic tales of wrestling or power tools? Then find kindred spirits, whether it be online or in person or in a church, who share your interests in angels and spiritual topics and allow your friends and husbands to pursue their passions. They may become interested at some other time based upon some positive changes they see in your life, or they may go through life just fine as they are. Respect the journey of each individual. All are where they are supposed to be.
