We attended the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at UCLA, a wonderful event for bibilophiles that occurs the last weekend of April annually on UCLA's campus. Rick works at UCLA, so we went up to his office to put our purchases someplace and rest a bit, when we noticed a commotion outside.
There is a little courtyard outside in the middle of the building, and a squirrel had managed to drop down into the courtyard without being able to escape.
Sometimes I meet people who are bemused by my animal communication practice, who are skeptical that I can really communicate with animals. I am firmly convinced that everyone can easily send thoughts to animals, sometimes inadvertently, (which can be confirmed by anyone who has tried to track down a cat just prior to a veterinary appointment).
This squirrel was frantic, and I sent him the thought that we would try to help him get outside the building again.
After a while, the squirrel jumped INSIDE AN EMPTY FLOWER POT, and allowed Rick to approach him with a flat notebook to cover the pot and did not move. Rick carried the covered flower pot, with squirrel inside, down the elevator and outside the building. That squirrel instantly scrambled up a tree after he came out of the flower pot, but it confirmed for us that he KNEW we were trying to help and that he was fully capable of running out of the pot before, but stayed so Rick could help him.
It was an interesting ending to a day spent amongst many people and books!
