Return of the Ancestors

My teacher Carla volunteered at the Return of the Ancestors gathering in Arizona a few weeks ago, and she shared how amazing it was to work with the ancestors. She led a group of us in a shamanic journey to have an introduction to an ancestor and to receive a message.

I have connected with Grandmother Ocean, who appears to me as an ancient being (no offense, Grandmother, but a weathered, wrinkled look that is almost reptilian like a sea turtle's skin.) She has long flowing dreadlock-like hair in a greenish cast similar to the Statue of Liberty's patina, full of fish and sea stars and seaweed and sea urchins....

My introductory message from Grandmother Ocean on 4/29/09 was as follows:

The tides rise, the tides drop. The waves come in, the waves rush out. I come to tell you of cycles. Women have cycles. The moon has cycles. The earth has cycles.

You are never the positive without the negative or the negative without the positive. Within each thing is the seed of its opposite. Light and darkness in people comes from that aspect they give emphasis to.

You are a witness to the great mystery. You see the world as it is and the other worlds of cause and creation. You see possibility and mystery. Change is yours because of your fluidity in shifting among the worlds.

When you wish to shift realities, you may call upon me. When you wish to explore cycles within cycles, lives within your present life, thoughts within beliefs, I am here. I am the archaeological grandmother. Inside and outside of time, I delve into the thoughts of creation.

You are children of possibility. You are children of the all--and children of nothing. Life is what you choose to believe about it. Choose well.

This morning, 5/6/09, I received a further message during a shamanic journey in which I asked why the ancestors are returning now.

We the ancestors have returned to you because it is at this time that we are needed. People are disconnected from their spirits and in a state of worry as they focus upon money, or upon its lack.

The realm of nature shows you that there is absolutely nothing lacking and that all is truly well. There are uncountable waves in the ocean, grains of sand on the beaches. There are so many wing beats of a hummingbird in flight, so many wildflowers that seed themselves and grow in springtime before falling dormant in wait for the next spring.

This is a period of dormancy in the human world of your “economy”. The ancestors do not discount your issues of job loss or financial concerns. But we say they are an illusion if you think of them in terms of an absolute “problem.”

This is a time of ebb. There are other times of flow. These are the cycles of nature. These are the cycles people have become disconnected from.

Do not be frightened. Put your energy into feeling your connection with the Earth Mother, with the land, with the sea. Be aware of the world of cycles. Be aware of the larger movements of energy through time, of cycles of life begetting life, then going fallow.

Do not fight the cycle. Embrace the opportunity to live simply and to be at peace about things you cannot change. Recharge your spirit often in nature. Call upon us ancestors for a larger perspective and for your learning and growth.
