Shamanism and Healing

I thought this DailyOm link had a good, albeit short, description of shamanism as a healing method. I think that shamanism is enjoying a renaissance in the western world because our urban lifestyles have contributed toward a separation from nature. Also, people have been seeking a direct spiritual experience of the divine.

It is through shamanic practice that I encountered Jesus and was able to reconcile myself with Christianity. Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice in order to redeem humankind, and he is very kind, compassionate and loving--and very much a healer. When I do shamanic healing, I mainly work with Jesus, St. Francis (for animals), and St. Michael the Archangel (who helps escort any spiritually unsavory energies out of one's body). I have myself been the recipient of a shamanic healing that tremendously helped a longstanding lower back problem and helped me to understand its origin in a traumatic incident a few years prior to the inception of problems.

Traditionally, one works with "power animals" in shamanism. There are guardians in all cultures and all traditions. Native peoples often saw these as animals--in the Western traditions, we see them as angels. Our guardians are not physical beings. I happen to see my guardians in both animal and in angelic form because I have a practice of both core shamanism and of Christianity. As an aside, when I was doing my principal shamanic training with Carla Meeske, the majority of my fellow class members were also either Catholic or Mainline Protestant Christians.

Please read the article, and if you would like a distant shamanic healing for yourself and/or an animal, or have questions, I would be delighted if you contact me. Thank you.
