I enjoy the tradition of daily prayer from a prayer book. By taking away the intellectual exercise of trying to "find words" for prayer, my soul experiences the worship more completely.
I have enjoyed The Urban Abbey's presence on twitter, and wanted to share a link with their midday prayer tradition. It is short yet meaningful. If you are of a different faith, please find a practice within your own tradition that suits you--but form a habit of prayer. Here is the link: http://urbanabbey.blogspot.com/2009/06/abbey-traditions.html
I always admired one of my coworkers from India who carries his prayer rug into another room regularly to do his five prayers a day facing Mecca. How many of us pray even ONE time a day, I thought. Well, if one uses a daily prayer format, one prays regardless of whether one is praying "for" anything.
This is why I have the badge on my site saying I pray the Liturgy of the Hours. I don't necessarily always do Morning and Evening Prayer. Sometimes it's Morning and Compline, or Midday and Evening... but I make sure I do two of the prayer services a day at least--plus I pray with my Anglican rosary in the morning to get centered for my day.
Prayer as a discipline really opens one up to feeling great. Try it!
